back to JUNE 13, 1973: LE JARDIN OPENS

From Small Talk in Interview magazine July 1973:

"TRES GAY: The cream of the cream turned out in their whitest t-shirts and tightest jeans for the opening of New York's newest nightspot, Le Jardin, which bills itself as a 'discotheque pour monsieur.' The featured attraction: Miss Candy Darling making her nightclub debut on her way to the Flamingo of Las Vegas. Spotted: lightweight boxing champion Chu Chu Malave with Paris fashion illustrator Antonio Lopez; happy hooker Xaviera Hollander with a fleet of happy hustlers; editor Danny Fields talent scouting for Sixteen magazine centerfolds; Paul Jabara who's musical Rachel Rosenbloom... And Don't You Forget It hits Broadway this fall; Gerri Miller [the stripper in Trash] twirling her breasts for the boys at the bar; Poutassa De La Fayette who flew in from Fire Island to 'see her good friend Candy Darling'; sultry Juan De Jesus whose life has quieted down since Salvador Dali left for Paris; and Sal Mineo with a large entourage including Jill Haworth."
