back to 1973: HOLLY WOODLAWN BECOMES A BROKEN GODDESS

Holly Woodlawn in Broken Goddess

Broken Goddess was based on the song, Superstar that Bette Midler sang in her act. The film was supposed to be footage of Bette as a damsel in distress which would be projected behinded her while she sang the number.

When they saw the rushes with Holly playing the part, they decided to turn the super 8mm film into a 30 minute film called Broken Goddess. Dallas hocked his furniture, some jewelry and took a night job to form his own production company, Immortal Films. Singer/songwriter Lauro Nyro worked as his personal assistant.

After the filming, Dallas was robbed of his cameras and film-editing equipment, leaving only the cannisters of raw footage. (HW227-8)
